Maralal town is set for a major infrastructure boost following a joint inspection of its road network by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KenHA), the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), and the Samburu County Government.

KenHA’s Upper Eastern Regional Director, Eng. Howard M’mayi, paid a courtesy call on County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads, Transport and Public Works, Rose Lekalesoi, before joining engineers from KenHA, KURA, and the county to assess the state of Maralal’s urban roads.

KenHA is currently undertaking routine maintenance on its roads within Samburu County and confirmed that upgrading works on the Kisima–Sura Adoru and Maralal–Morijo roads will commence soon.

KURA will also embark on upgrading more Maralal urban roads to bitumen standard, aiming to improve accessibility and ease transport within the town.

During the inspection, the county government proposed several additional road projects for upgrade, including:

  • Nuclear RB – Jamaru Hotel – Dumisha RB

  • BP – RB Hospital Road – Equity Junction – Maralal Chief’s Office

  • Nuclear RB – Mwisho Mwisho – Leshangiralai – Suen Road

  • ID Offices – Lenairoshi Junction – Maralal Law Court RB

  • Paradise Road – Jadana – Jamaru RB

CECM Rose Lekalesoi emphasised the importance of these upgrades in boosting economic activity, improving road safety, and opening up Maralal for more investment opportunities.

Also present during the meeting and inspection was Chief Officer for Roads and Transport, Sarafino Lasankurikuri, alongside other senior government officers.

The multi-agency effort signals a strong commitment to enhancing Maralal’s road network and ensuring better connectivity within Samburu County.
