Healthcare delivery in West Pokot County is set for a significant boost following the deployment of 346 newly recruited health workers.

The new team, drawn from all 20 wards, will be posted across the county’s newly constructed and upgraded health facilities to strengthen service delivery and address long-standing gaps in access to quality medical care.

During a meeting held at Mtelo Hall, Governor Simon Kachapin officially welcomed the recruits and emphasised the importance of commitment, professionalism, and compassion in public service.

Governor Kachapin urged them to embrace postings in even the most remote areas, where healthcare access remains a daily struggle for many families.

He reaffirmed his administration’s continued investment in the health sector, highlighting the construction and equipping of several new health facilities.

However, he emphasized that infrastructure alone is not enough, transforming the healthcare system requires skilled and dedicated personnel.

“To ensure these facilities are functional and responsive to community needs, we have prioritized the recruitment of qualified health professionals,” said Governor Kachapin.

“This diverse team includes doctors, nurses, laboratory technologists, clinical officers, pharmacists, public health officers, radiographers, nutritionists, and other key personnel critical to effective healthcare delivery.”

The deployment of the health workers marks a critical step toward achieving equitable healthcare coverage across the county.

With healthcare services now being brought closer to residents, the governor encouraged the public to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA), which provides affordable and reliable health insurance.

“While constructing and equipping health facilities is essential, the real impact comes from having health workers who are dedicated and trustworthy. With this team now in place, we are better positioned to deliver the healthcare our people deserve, from right where they live,” he said.

The initiative reflects the county government’s commitment to inclusive development and its resolve to strengthen human resources for health.

It also signals a shift toward more community-centred care, where services reach residents where they are, rather than forcing them to travel long distances in search of medical attention.

As the new staff settle into their roles, the county looks forward to improved health outcomes and a more resilient healthcare system, supported by both infrastructure and a dedicated workforce.
