New Markets, Blue Economy Key Focus in Lamu Investment Forum
Lamu County Government

Lamu County has taken steps to unlock its economic potential through a collaborative investment forum that highlighted emerging opportunities in market development and the blue economy sector.

The County Government, in partnership with the Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest) under the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry, convened traders and investors this week to explore sustainable pathways for business growth in the coastal region.

Communication from the Lamu County Government disclosed that the consultative meeting served as a platform to sensitise local entrepreneurs on Lamu's untapped investment prospects while reviewing ongoing government initiatives to improve the business environment.

Participants acknowledged progress in infrastructure development, including new market constructions and road networks, alongside innovative ventures in the blue economy sector.

The introduction of cultural festivals like the Lamu Cultural Festival was also recognised as a catalyst for tourism and trade expansion.

County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Hon. Aisha Miraj, reaffirmed the administration's commitment to supporting business growth under Governor Issa Timamy's leadership.

She emphasised the critical role of private sector engagement in job creation and economic development, assuring stakeholders of continued government backing to help them maximise opportunities.

KenInvest representatives outlined their mandate to facilitate investment processes and connect entrepreneurs with viable ventures, particularly in high-potential regions like Lamu.

The agency's involvement focuses on providing market intelligence, streamlining investment procedures, and fostering partnerships between local businesses and potential investors.

This forum marks a significant step in Lamu's economic transformation agenda, aligning county resources with national investment strategies to position the region as an emerging hub for trade and maritime-based enterprises.
