The County Government of West Pokot has reported a significant turnout in the ongoing Social Health Authority (SHA) registration drive, marking a strong public response to the county’s efforts to expand access to affordable, community-based healthcare services.
In Sigor Sub-County alone, the Department of Health and Sanitation successfully registered 654 clients as residents turned up in large numbers to enroll in the SHA program.
The campaign, which is part of a countywide initiative, aims to ensure that all residents can access essential health services under a universal coverage framework tailored to local needs.
In a parallel exercise held at Ortum Centre, over 1,028 clients were registered, further underscoring the public’s growing interest and awareness of the SHA program.
The high turnout has been welcomed by county health officials, who view the response as a positive step toward achieving inclusive and equitable health service delivery across the region.
According to the Department, the registration campaign will continue across various markets and public centers in the coming weeks.
Residents are being encouraged to take advantage of the exercise and secure enrollment to benefit from the services offered under the SHA framework.
As part of its commitment to improving healthcare delivery, the county has also inducted a new cohort of health workers, who will be deployed across West Pokot, with a focus on remote and underserved areas.
Speaking during the induction ceremony at Mtelo Hall in Kapenguria, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health and Sanitation, Ms. Clare Parklea, welcomed the recruits and emphasized the importance of professionalism, compassion, and dedication in public health service.
Ms. Parklea reaffirmed the county’s commitment to strengthening healthcare systems by combining the ongoing SHA registration campaign with the deployment of skilled personnel to bridge service gaps and ensure quality care reaches every corner of West Pokot.
The SHA initiative is part of the county’s broader agenda to build a resilient, community-driven health system that prioritizes affordability, accessibility, and preventive care.
