Clan elders from the Garre and Murule communities have agreed to work together to resolve tensions following a two-day peace dialogue organized by the Mandera County Government and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC).

The talks, held in Wargadud town, brought together community leaders, peace committees, and government officials to address recent conflicts threatening stability in the region.

The dialogue resulted in three key resolutions: clan elders pledged to jointly de-escalate tensions and prevent violence, a 15-member joint committee was established to address unresolved disputes, and both communities committed to investigating recent killings and injuries.

Participants as a crucial step toward restoring long-term harmony, praised the initiative, supported by DRC’s Resilience, Peace and Stability Project.

The County Department of Community Cohesion emphasized the importance of sustained dialogue in preventing further clashes.

According to the Mandera county government, the newly formed committee is expected to facilitate mediation and promote accountability, with elders from both clans taking a leading role in conflict resolution.

This intervention marks a significant effort to strengthen social cohesion in Mandera, where recurring disputes have disrupted livelihoods and security.

County officials and partners plan to monitor progress while exploring additional measures to support lasting peace.
