West Pokot County Governor Simon Kachapin has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to bolstering disaster preparedness and fostering peace through a strengthened partnership with the Kenya Red Cross West Pokot Chapter.

During a productive meeting held at his official residence, Governor Kachapin engaged with Red Cross representatives to discuss strategies for enhancing disaster response and promoting unity across the county.

A key focus of the meeting was the upcoming launch of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on September 17, 2025.

The EOC is expected to significantly improve coordination and preparedness for disasters, enabling faster and more effective responses to emergencies such as floods, droughts, and other climate-related challenges that frequently impact West Pokot.

The center will serve as a hub for mobilizing resources, streamlining communication, and ensuring timely interventions to protect lives and livelihoods.

The discussions also highlighted the role of community-driven initiatives in building resilience.

Governor Kachapin and the Kenya Red Cross explored plans for a peace tournament at Sangak Primary School, aimed at bringing communities together and fostering lasting unity.

The tournament is part of broader efforts to promote peaceful coexistence, a critical component of sustainable development in a region that has faced inter-communal tensions in the past.

The governor emphasized his administration’s dedication to working with the Kenya Red Cross and other stakeholders to enhance disaster management and build a more resilient West Pokot.

By prioritizing collaboration, the county aims to address both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term goals for peace and stability.
