A multi-agency initiative led by the Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) has equipped 70 education stakeholders in Wajir West Sub-County with essential skills in digital literacy and online child protection.
The training, funded by the European Union and UNICEF, brought together headteachers, Board of Management (BOM) members, and PTA chairs from 12 schools, with 47 men and 23 women participating.
Hosted at I-Mall Hotel in Wajir, the workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Teachers Service Commission, and the State Department of Children Services.

The session focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of the National ICT Policy in Education while raising awareness about safeguarding learners in online environments.
Officially opening the training, Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed, Curriculum and Quality Assurance Officer (CQASO), emphasised the increasing relevance of ICT integration in Kenyan schools.
He noted that digital literacy has become a core competency for learners, and schools must ensure that technology is used safely and responsibly to shield children from emerging online risks.
The workshop’s objectives included deepening understanding of the ICT policy, enhancing school leaders’ capacity to integrate technology into teaching and school management, and building awareness of online safety protocols.
Participants were also sensitised on their role in creating safe digital spaces for learners.

In his closing remarks, Hadado Sub-County Director of Education, Mr. Abdi Daud, commended FCDC and UNICEF for spearheading the initiative.
He urged school leaders and communities to prioritise digital literacy and take greater ownership of ICT-related efforts spearheaded by the ICT Authority, stressing that sustainability requires commitment beyond support from implementing partners.
