Hundreds of vulnerable households across the Somali Region’s Liban Zone are set to receive critical cash support following a transparent community-led registration and validation exercise.

Rural Agency for Community Development and Assistance (RACIDA) Ethiopia, with support from Stichting Vluchteling and in collaboration with local authorities, has identified and registered 461 households affected by prolonged drought and conflict in Dollo-Ado, Filtu, and Dhekasuftu woredas.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance food security and provide dignified support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities through Unconditional Cash Transfers (UCT).

The team conducted beneficiary validation using a community-based targeting approach, ensuring fairness and inclusivity.

Local representatives and community structures played a leading role, while open community meetings reviewed the lists to confirm transparency.

Household spot-checks further verified eligibility, and a real-time complaint and feedback mechanism allowed grievances to be resolved immediately.

Among the validated households are some of the most at-risk groups, including female-headed families, the elderly, and drought-displaced IDPs.

For many, the cash transfers will serve as a vital lifeline, allowing them to meet urgent food and household needs while preserving their dignity and choice.

As the next step, RACIDA Ethiopia will begin rolling out payment cycles and monitoring the impact of the support, while maintaining open channels of communication with both beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries to manage expectations.

RACIDA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches those most in need while strengthening resilience in Ethiopia’s drought- and conflict-affected communities by emphasising accountability, transparency, and community ownership.
