Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba hosted a delegation of leaders and professionals from Wajir County to fast-track discussions on the establishment of the proposed Wajir Peace University.
The delegation, led by Eldas MP Adan Keynan and Wajir West MP Yusuf Farah, engaged the CS in a consultative meeting focused on strengthening the educational landscape in Wajir and exploring new opportunities to expand access and improve quality across the county.

In a statement after the meeting, MP Adan Keynan said the leaders, accompanied by members of the Board of Trustees of Wajir Peace University, presented a unified case for accelerating the creation of the institution.
He emphasised that the university would serve as a cornerstone for peacebuilding, research, and technical skill development in Northern Kenya.
“We held a productive consultative meeting with the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Julius Migos Ogamba, in our collective commitment to fast-tracking the establishment of Wajir Peace University,” Keynan said.
“This much-needed institution will not only anchor peacebuilding and research but also play a pivotal role in strengthening the region’s technical and professional capacity.”

According to the leaders, a fully fledged university in Wajir would equip students in the vast region with the skills, competencies and exposure needed to compete both nationally and globally.
They noted that the institution would nurture a new generation of peace practitioners, engineers, researchers, educators and innovators capable of driving development and transforming the socio-economic landscape of Northern Kenya.
The MPs also briefed the CS on what they described as overwhelming community support for the project, alongside strong backing from regional and pastoralist leaders.

They outlined the strategic vision already developed by the University’s Trustees, expressing optimism about the Ministry of Education’s commitment.
“We are encouraged by his positive response and the Ministry’s commitment to continue engaging with all stakeholders as we refine the pathway towards actualisation,” Keynan added.
CS Migos reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to continue consultations with stakeholders as efforts intensify to bring the Wajir Peace University plan to fruition
