The County Government of Garissa, in collaboration with Islamic Relief Kenya and community stakeholders, has convened a lesson-learning workshop on the Strengthening Community Resilience and Economic Empowerment Program (SHEEP).
The workshop, held in Garissa Town, brought together representatives from the county government, implementing partners, and community members to review outcome harvesting results, share experiences, and extract key lessons aimed at improving program delivery and sustainability.
Funded by Islamic Relief USA, the SHEEP program focuses on enhancing community resilience through Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Food Security, and Livelihoods interventions across Balambala and Lagdera sub-counties.

Speaking during the workshop, officials from the Department of Economic Planning and the Islamic Relief Kenya team emphasised the importance of collaboration and adaptive learning in ensuring that development programs respond effectively to community needs..
Participants also highlighted the program’s contribution to improving access to clean water, promoting sustainable agriculture, and strengthening household incomes through livelihood diversification.
Islamic Relief Kenya representatives reaffirmed their commitment to continue working with the county government and local communities to build self-reliant, climate-resilient livelihoods in Garissa County.
The workshop concluded with a shared call for continued multi-sectoral collaboration to ensure that the successes of the SHEEP program are sustained and replicated in other vulnerable communities.
