Garissa County is setting its sights on an improved performance at the upcoming 11th edition of the Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA) Games, following an impressive quarterfinal finish in the 2025 tournament.

The county’s soccer team has finalised preparations ahead of the competition, scheduled to kick off on April 10 in Laikipia County.

Officials from the county government's Department of Sports confirmed that the player verification process has been completed, clearing the team for participation.

The Garissa soccer side enters this year’s tournament with renewed confidence after a strong showing in 2025, where they advanced to the quarterfinals with notable performances.

The team now aims to build on that momentum and push further in the competition.

County sports officials have assured the players of full administrative and logistical support, emphasising the government’s commitment to nurturing youth talent and strengthening sports development in the region.

The verification exercise was overseen by key county officials, including the Chief Officer for Sports, Harun, and Director of Sports Osman Sanweyne, alongside other stakeholders.

The process was aimed at ensuring compliance with KYISA regulations and assembling a competitive squad.

The Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association Games serve as a vital platform for identifying and nurturing young talent across the country.

Beyond competition, the games also promote peace, national cohesion, and unity among youth from diverse counties.

Additionally, the tournament provides an opportunity for talented players to gain exposure and connect with professional clubs, opening pathways for career advancement in sports.
