Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has unveiled two landmark development projects in Dadaab Sub-County, marking a major step toward improving economic opportunities and essential services for local residents.
The Governor officially opened the new Dadaab Municipality Market, a modern facility designed to provide traders with a safer, cleaner and more organized environment.
According to an official update from the county, the market is expected to boost commerce, support small businesses, and enhance revenue collection for sustainable public services.
“This market is more than just a place to trade, it is an engine for growth, dignity, and opportunity for our traders and residents,” Governor Jama said during the commissioning ceremony.
He was joined by Senator Abdul Haji, county officials, and community leaders.
Alongside the market launch, Governor Jama inaugurated Phase One of the Dadaab Town Water Project, part of a fully completed 21-kilometre water supply system serving all four phases of the town.
The project delivers clean and reliable water to thousands of households, institutions and businesses across Dadaab, with infrastructure that includes boreholes, pumping stations, elevated storage tanks, and a modern pipeline network.
“This is not just about water infrastructure; it is about dignity, health, and economic opportunity for our people,” the Governor said.
“With all four phases operational, Dadaab is now assured of a steady and sustainable water supply.”
The Governor urged residents to safeguard the water infrastructure, pay for services promptly, and work closely with the Garissa Water and Sewerage Company (GAWASCO) to ensure sustainability for future generations.
Local leaders, including Lagdera MP Abdikadir Mohamed Hussein and Kenya’s Ambassador to Oman Mohamed Dolal, hailed the projects as transformative investments that will significantly uplift livelihoods in the sub-county.
