Residents of Maramtu and surrounding bullas in Garissa County are on the brink of a long-awaited transformation, as GAWASCO steps up efforts to extend reliable water access across the region.
The water utility company is currently undertaking major piping works connected to the Maramtu borehole, to ensure a consistent, clean water supply to several underserved areas.
The project, which covers Kunaso, Dekabure, Ceel Gadhud, Bulla Rahma, Tawakal, and Upper Mzuri, is nearing completion and is set to be officially launched within the next two weeks.
Bulla Game has been identified as the next target area for connection, marking continued progress in GAWASCO’s water expansion agenda.
During an inspection visit, GAWASCO Managing Director Mohamud Dolal assessed the implementation of the project and engaged with local communities to manage expectations.
He reported steady progress and noted that some households in Ceel Gadhud have already begun receiving water.
Others will be connected once pipe testing is complete. Residents were encouraged to prepare for regular monthly payments to help maintain the service sustainably.
This initiative falls under Governor Nathif Jama’s broader push to improve essential services across Garissa County, starting with access to clean and safe water.
For many residents, particularly those in areas like Bulla Medium Prison in Iftin Ward, the project represents a significant step forward after years of water scarcity.
With the infrastructure nearly ready, thousands of residents across the seven targeted areas are poised to benefit from consistent water access, improved health outcomes, and reduced reliance on unsafe water sources.
The upcoming launch signals not just improved service delivery, but renewed hope for communities that have long awaited basic water infrastructure.
