The Garissa Township Library came alive on Thursday, 19, with the Reading Promotion Campaign 2025, an event dedicated to advancing literacy in an age defined by technology.
Supported by the Kenya National Library Service (KNLS) and Book Aid International, the event was held under the theme “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era” and coincided with International Literacy Day celebrations.
More than 250 pupils and adults participated, underscoring the growing community commitment to reading, digital learning, and lifelong education.

The Chief Officer for Information & Library Services, Nimo Bashow, called on residents to embrace all forms of learning, whether through books, online courses, or digital libraries, highlighting the importance of cultivating a culture of knowledge and growth.
A key highlight of the event was the donation of study materials by Book Aid International to local schools, including Garissa Primary, Goodwish Primary, and Hyuga Girls Primary.
The books are expected to strengthen access to learning resources and inspire a new generation of readers.
The campaign not only celebrated literacy but also showcased the vital role libraries play in bridging the digital divide.

By providing access to both traditional reading materials and modern digital platforms, Garissa Township Library continues to position itself as a hub for education and innovation in the community.
As the region embraces the challenges and opportunities of the digital era, the Reading Promotion Campaign reaffirmed the belief that literacy, whether through a printed page or a digital screen, remains the foundation for building inclusive, knowledgeable, and empowered societies.
