The County Government of Garissa and UNICEF Kenya have reaffirmed their partnership to strengthen collaboration across key sectors that directly impact the well-being of children and families.

On Tuesday, Deputy Governor H.E. Abdi Dagane hosted a delegation from UNICEF Kenya led by Country Representative Shaheen Nilofer at the County Headquarters.

The discussions focused on scaling up joint interventions in education, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), child protection, health, nutrition, and drought resilience.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor expressed appreciation for UNICEF’s long-standing support to the county, noting that the organisation has been instrumental in advancing children’s welfare and community resilience.

“UNICEF has been a trusted partner to Garissa for years. Together, we are building stronger systems that ensure every child learns, stays healthy, and grows up in dignity,” said Deputy Governor Dagane.

UNICEF Country Representative Shaheen Nilofer lauded Garissa’s leadership for prioritising children’s rights and inclusive development, pledging continued technical and financial support for ongoing programs.

“Garissa has shown strong leadership in protecting its most vulnerable. UNICEF will continue to stand with the County in delivering tangible impact where it matters most,” she said.

The meeting underscored a shared commitment to addressing challenges such as drought, malnutrition, and limited access to essential services, all of which have been exacerbated by climate-related shocks in northern Kenya.

The Deputy Governor was joined by CECM for Education Ebla Minhaj, CECM for Agriculture and Livestock Milgow Dubow, and other senior county officials.

Through this renewed collaboration, Garissa County and UNICEF aim to strengthen integrated service delivery and build more resilient communities, ensuring that no child is left behind.
