Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has pledged to recruit an additional 100 Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers to strengthen the teaching workforce and uplift education standards across the county.

Speaking as chief guest during the 17th Annual General Meeting of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Garissa Branch, Governor Nathif reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in education as the cornerstone of long-term development.

“Teachers are the heartbeat of our education system,” the Governor said.

“By supporting and empowering them, we are securing the future of our children and our county.”

The governor’s announcement builds on last year’s successful recruitment of 200 ECD teachers, a move that KNUT hailed as a game-changer for early learning in Garissa.

The event brought together key education stakeholders, including Mercy Kiambati, the first National Women Representative, who stood in for KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu, area MP Major Dekow Barrow, Deputy Governor Abdi Dagane, CECM for Education Ebla Minhaj, officials from the Teachers Service Commission and the Ministry of Education, as well as KNUT Garissa branch leaders led by Executive Secretary Abdirizak Aden.

Teachers at the meeting expressed gratitude to the Governor for his continued support and pledged to collaborate closely with the County Government to improve learning outcomes and ensure every child in Garissa has access to quality education.
