Hanaano Program: Mandera North Leaders Unite to Address Gender Violence, Youth Migration

Mandera North has taken steps to combat gender-based violence and illegal youth migration through a high-level forum organized under the Hanaano Program.

The Gender Technical Working Group meeting, facilitated by RACIDA in partnership with Concern Worldwide with support from Irish Aid, brought together government officials, civil society organizations, religious leaders, and community representatives to develop coordinated solutions to pressing social challenges.

Chaired by the Deputy County Commissioner, the forum focused on four critical issues affecting the region: the alarming rise in defilement cases, improving access to safe spaces and legal aid services, addressing the consequences of illegal youth migration on families, and strengthening collaboration between gender-based violence champions and the technical working group.

The meeting represents an advancement in Mandera North's efforts to create a more gender-responsive community.

By establishing this collaborative platform, stakeholders aim to reinforce protection systems, share critical updates, and implement joint actions that promote community resilience.

As explained by RACIDA, an organisation that provides humanitarian assistance, builds resilience and promotes coexistence among the vulnerable pastoralist communities, the Hanaano Program continues to serve as a vital initiative in addressing complex social issues through multi-sectoral engagement and locally-driven solutions.

This coordinated approach demonstrates Mandera North's commitment to tackling deep-rooted gender inequalities while responding to emerging challenges like youth migration that threaten family stability in the region.

After successful implementation, the meeting is expected to inform stronger policies and more effective interventions to safeguard vulnerable groups across the county.
