Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen arrived in El Wak today for the second day of the Jukwaa la Usalama tour in Mandera County, aimed at addressing the region’s pressing security challenges.
The initiative, designed to foster dialogue with local leaders and communities, continues to tackle the complexities of maintaining peace and security across Mandera’s vast and logistically challenging terrain.

“Due to the vastness of the area and logistical challenges, we split our tour of Mandera County into two,” Murkomen explained.
On Monday, the CS convened a diverse group of stakeholders, including wananchi, leaders, chiefs, assistant chiefs, and law enforcement officers from Mandera East, Mandera North, Lafey, Arabia, Banisa, Ashabito, and Khalilio sub-counties in Mandera town.
“Yesterday in Mandera town, we convened wananchi, leaders, chiefs, assistant chiefs, and law enforcement officers,” he noted.
Today’s focus shifted to Mandera Central, Kotulo, Mandera West, Dandu, and Kiliwehiri sub-counties, with Murkomen leading discussions in El Wak to address localised security concerns and strengthen community-police collaboration.
“Today is the turn for Mandera Central, Kotulo, Mandera West, Dandu, and Kiliwehiri sub-counties,” he stated.
Murkomen was joined by a high-level delegation, including Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General of Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli, Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin, General Service Unit Commandant Ranson Lolmodooni, and Principal Administrative Secretary Beverly Opwora.
Other senior officials present included Secretary for Internal Security Thomas Saka, NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, Secretary for National Registration Dr. Christopher Wanjau, Secretary for Civil Registration Paul Mwangemi, North Eastern Regional Commissioner John Otieno, Regional Police Commander Pepita Ranka, Regional Administration Police Commander Abdi Argamso, and County Commissioner James Chacha.
The Jukwaa la Usalama tour reflects the government’s commitment to fostering dialogue and collaboration with local communities to address security threats, including banditry, inter-clan conflicts, and cross-border challenges in Mandera County.
