The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and the West Pokot County Government have identified the Kases Dam and Nauyapong area as priority zones for new strategic infrastructure projects to accelerate regional development.

The commitment follows a high-level meeting between West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin and a delegation from KeNHA, led by the agency’s team leader for county partnerships.

In an official communication from the County Government of West Pokot, the discussions centered on strengthening collaboration to enhance road connectivity and boost socio-economic growth within the county and the wider North Rift region.

Governor Kachapin confirmed the development, stating, “I hosted a delegation from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to deepen collaboration on infrastructure projects in the county.”

Kachapin emphasized that his administration has built a strong working relationship with the national authority, noting, “My administration has been working closely with KeNHA on road improvement and school facilities, and this visit built on that progress.”

A key outcome of the engagement was a joint site visit to Pokot North.

The teams assessed strategic locations, with a particular focus on the Kases Dam and Nauyapong, which are now slated for future infrastructural planning and development.

Improved road networks in these areas are expected to unlock new opportunities for trade and investment, ease the movement of goods and people, and improve access to essential services for residents.

Beyond road construction, the partnership also encompasses educational infrastructure.

The meeting featured a joint briefing on the progress at Sangat Primary School, a project coordinated by KeNHA and the County Government.

This initiative underscores a shared commitment to creating safe and accessible learning environments, especially for children in marginalized border communities.

Governor Kachapin highlighted the tangible benefits of this cooperation, saying, “A joint briefing on Sangat Primary School highlighted how coordinated efforts between the county and KeNHA can directly meet community needs.”

He concluded by reaffirming the value of the partnership, stating, “This partnership remains central to opening up opportunities and improving the daily lives of our people.”
