The 4th edition of the Kenya Meat Expo 2025 officially kicked off today at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), drawing stakeholders from across the meat and livestock value chain under the theme “Driving Sustainable Growth Across the Meat Value Chain.”
The Directorate of Veterinary Services and features a blend of expert-led breakout masterclasses, exhibitions, and interactive sessions aimed at deepening collaboration and exploring transformative solutions for the livestock sector, hosts the three-day event, running from August 6 to 8.
Entry to the event is free for all attendees.
This year’s edition places strong emphasis on inclusive policy frameworks and sustainable development of Kenya’s meat and livestock industries, particularly in the arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) where pastoralism remains central to livelihoods and food systems.
The Drylands Learning and Capacity Building Initiative (DLCI) is participating as a strategic partner, alongside Nation Media Group and other stakeholders. Speaking at the event, DLCI CEO Dr. Jarso Mokku highlighted the vital role of policy in driving growth across the value chain and empowering dryland communities.
“As champions of pastoralists and dryland economies in Kenya, DLCI joins Kenya Meat Expo 2025 as a strategic partner to spotlight the policy shift needed for sustainable livestock development in Kenya's drylands,” said Dr. Mokku.
“From the 6th to the 8th of August, DLCI will bring a community-informed voice to the policy conversation shaping the future of the meat and livestock industry—from rangelands to the market.”
He underscored the importance of advocating for stronger pastoralist inclusion, fair trade frameworks, and reforms in land rates as key elements of a resilient and inclusive livestock economy.
Attendees can look forward to expert discussions on production, processing, trade, and policy innovations shaping the sector.
The expo also provides a platform for business networking, showcasing of local meat products, and learning from best practices in sustainable livestock systems.
As the event unfolds, it is expected to galvanize momentum around policy alignment, innovation, and partnerships that will drive growth in one of Kenya’s most vital rural economies.
