The Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated 30,000 kilograms of dates to support drought-affected families in Kenya, reinforcing humanitarian ties between the two nations ahead of the holy month of Ramadhan.

The consignment was officially handed over at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Mr. Osama Abuseem Alali, Head of Consular Affairs and National Services, on behalf of H.E. Dr. Salim Ibrahim AlNaqbi, Ambassador of the UAE to Kenya.

The donation was received by the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, alongside the Secretary General of the Kenya Red Cross Society, Dr. Ahmed Idris.

According to an update from the Kenya Red Cross, the food donation comes at a critical time as several communities across the country continue to grapple with the effects of prolonged drought, which has strained household food supplies and livelihoods.

The support is expected to complement ongoing relief interventions targeting the most vulnerable families.

Officials noted that the donation reflects the strong bilateral relations between Kenya and the UAE, particularly in humanitarian cooperation and emergency response.

With Ramadhan approaching, the dates will play a vital role in supporting Muslim families observing the fast, while also easing food insecurity among drought-affected households.

The Kenya Red Cross Society will coordinate distribution to ensure the consignment reaches communities most in need across affected regions.
