The Kiunga Marine National Reserve Ranger Team has been honoured with the International Ranger Award by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA).

The award recognises their exceptional dedication to conserving coral reefs, mangroves, and marine life along Kenya’s northern coastline.

Operating in one of Kenya’s most remote and challenging conservation frontiers, the Kiunga Rangers have demonstrated extraordinary courage, resilience, and commitment to safeguarding the ocean ecosystem.

Their daily work includes patrolling treacherous seas, rescuing stranded fishermen, protecting endangered species such as turtles and dugongs, and combating illegal fishing activities.

The international recognition celebrates not only the bravery of the Kiunga team but also Kenya’s long-standing commitment to protecting its natural heritage and marine biodiversity.

Their success stands as a testament to the power of community-driven conservation and the importance of protecting fragile ecosystems in the face of climate change and human pressure.

Congratulations to the heroes of Kiunga, the guardians of our oceans, symbols of resilience, and champions of hope, whose work continues to inspire conservation efforts across Kenya and beyond.
