The Government has launched electricity connectivity projects worth KSh1 billion in Marsabit County as part of ongoing efforts to boost development, strengthen service delivery, and enhance security across the region.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the 14th Marsabit Lake Turkana Cultural Festival in Loiyangalani, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said the investment includes KSh500 million earmarked for Laisamis and Loiyangalani, areas long affected by inadequate power infrastructure.

Kindiki noted that improved energy access will support economic transformation and help unlock local opportunities.

“Culture and traditions are the bedrock of peaceful coexistence among the communities that live in different parts of our Country. The unity of our communities is an integral catalyst for a cohesive, stable and equitably developed Country,” he said, adding that reliable infrastructure remains central to sustaining peace and development.

The Deputy President also announced major progress on the construction of the National Museum in Loiyangalani, a project initiated following President William Ruto’s directive during last year’s cultural festival.

The museum is currently 50 per cent complete and is expected to be officially opened early next year.

On security, Kindiki said Marsabit is now experiencing improved stability, with only isolated incidents of livestock theft.

He assured residents that the Government has deployed multi-agency teams to “ruthlessly dismantle all criminal enterprises and recover the stolen livestock.”

To further strengthen administrative efficiency, the Government has created four new sub-counties, with two more set to be established, a move aimed at enhancing timely response to security concerns and improving access to public services.

Kindiki commended local leaders, including Governor Mohamud Mohamed Ali and Laisamis MP Joseph Lekuton, for working closely with the national government to advance peace, cultural preservation, and development initiatives in the county.

He reiterated the Government’s commitment to supporting Marsabit’s growth, saying the new power projects and infrastructure upgrades will play a critical role in uplifting communities and accelerating long-term stability in the region.
