Lamu County has warmly welcomed a high-level delegation from the Republic of Jubaland State of Somalia, marking the start of a week-long programme blending rich cultural celebrations with strategic bilateral engagements.
The four ministers arrived from Kismayu through Wajir and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, signalling a renewed commitment to strengthening cross-border cooperation between Lamu and Jubaland.
The delegation was received at Manda Airport by Madam Aisha Miraj, Lamu County Executive Committee Member for Culture and Tourism, together with Mr Shee Kupi Shee, the County Director for Peacebuilding.

Their arrival was celebrated with colourful traditional performances that highlighted Lamu’s heritage, warmth, and hospitality.
The visit aligns with the Lamu Cultural Festival, which runs from 19th to 22nd November 2025, and precedes a series of bilateral meetings scheduled for 24th to 27th November.
These engagements aim to deepen collaboration in cultural preservation, tourism development, peacebuilding, and shared socio-economic priorities.
Shee Kupi Shee noted the significance of the visit, emphasising that the longstanding ties between the people of Lamu and Jubaland form a strong foundation for peaceful coexistence and mutual development.

He highlighted that cultural exchange and dialogue remain central to building trust and stability across the region.
Madam Aisha Miraj echoed this sentiment, stating that culture plays a vital role in uniting communities beyond geographic or political divides.
She described the Lamu Cultural Festival as a living symbol of how shared heritage can strengthen relationships and contribute to lasting harmony.
The Jubaland delegation also expressed appreciation for Lamu’s warm reception.
Hon. Abdifatah Mohamed Muktar, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, commended the deep cultural connection between the two regions and stressed that continued collaboration in culture and tourism is key to promoting peace and development.
Hon. Ibrahim Yusuf Abdi, Minister for Trade and Industrialisation, underscored the economic potential of enhanced cooperation.
He highlighted opportunities for joint initiatives in trade, investment, and industrial growth that could benefit communities on both sides of the border.
