The Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC), through the #RANGE Program, convened a high-level Peace and Security Sector Meeting to assess progress made in implementing resolutions from the 4th Pastoralist Leadership Summit (PLS 2024).
The meeting, held in collaboration with the Drylands Learning and Capacity Building Initiative (DLCI) and the State Department for ASALs and Regional Development (SDARD), brought together leaders from national and county governments, security agencies, development partners, and Members of Parliament.

Hon. Dekow Major, MP for Garissa Township and Thematic Lead for the Peace and Security Committee in the Pastoralist Parliamentary Group (PPG), officially opened the session.
In his remarks, he emphasised the need for coordinated policy implementation, strong partnerships, and sustained investment in peace across Kenya’s frontier counties.
FCDC CEO Dr Idle Farah reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region, noting that county governments play a central role in leading and financing locally grounded peacebuilding efforts.
He highlighted the importance of collaboration and accountability in achieving lasting stability in the ASAL regions.
The #RANGE Program, funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kenya and implemented in partnership with Mercy Corps Kenya and the University of Twente, continues to champion resilience, inclusivity, and cooperation across Kenya’s drylands.
The meeting concluded with leaders reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening systems, fostering partnerships, and advancing the peace and security agenda for sustainable development in the frontier counties.
