The County Government of Mandera has unveiled its County Nutrition Action Plan (CNAP) 2023–2027, marking a significant step forward in the county’s efforts to strengthen nutrition programming and improve health outcomes for its residents.

The plan was finalised during a multisectoral nutrition stakeholder session held in Elwak, bringing together key actors from the county government, development partners, and civil society.

The CNAP aims to provide a structured framework for coordinated nutrition interventions that address malnutrition and promote healthier communities across Mandera County.

This milestone achievement was made possible through the support of Save the Children Kenya & Madagascar under the UKAM–ACCEPT Project, which focuses on building local capacity and enhancing advocacy for nutrition at the county level.

Save the Children played a crucial role in facilitating the development process, ensuring that local priorities and evidence-based strategies are embedded within the plan.

The initiative also benefited from the valuable collaboration of Concern Worldwide and the Rural Agency for Community Development and Assistance (RACIDA), who contributed technical input and field-level insights.

Speaking at the conclusion of the session, representatives from the Mandera County Multisectoral Nutrition Stakeholder Team commended the inclusive approach taken in developing the plan, noting that it aligns with both county and national nutrition goals.

The CNAP 2023–2027 sets out clear strategies to reduce malnutrition rates, improve food security, strengthen health systems, and enhance community engagement in nutrition interventions.

It will also guide resource mobilisation, monitoring, and accountability for nutrition outcomes across multiple sectors, including health, agriculture, education, and social services.

Save the Children Kenya & Madagascar reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Mandera County and other frontier regions in implementing sustainable nutrition programs that ensure every child grows up healthy, nourished, and able to reach their full potential.

The unveiling of the CNAP is a renewed momentum toward achieving nutrition security and resilience in one of Kenya’s most arid and food-insecure regions.
