The County Government of Marsabit, in collaboration with UNICEF and development partners, has launched a joint effort to advance equitable, inclusive, and digitally connected learning across the county.
During the UNICEF Joint Inception Meeting held at the Sand and Rock Hotel in Marsabit Town, education stakeholders gathered to align priorities under the Inclusive Quality Education and Last Mile Connectivity Program (LMCS), a transformative initiative designed to bridge digital and geographic disparities in access to education.

The meeting brought together representatives from UNICEF, the Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC), Finn Church Aid (FCA), The Action Foundation (TAF), the ICT Authority, and other key partners in the education sector
The LMCS program aims to ensure that every child, including those in remote and marginalised areas, can access quality learning through improved digital infrastructure and inclusive education systems.
Speaking during the session, Hon. Ambaro Ali, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Skills, Youth, and Sports, commended UNICEF and its partners for their sustained collaboration in advancing education outcomes in Marsabit.
Hon. Ambaro highlighted key milestones achieved under Governor Mohamud Ali’s administration, including the awarding of scholarships to over 6,000 learners, the construction of 530 classrooms, the absorption of 170 ECDE teachers on permanent terms, and the distribution of 450 digital devices across 371 ECDE centres.
These efforts, she said, demonstrate the county’s determination to invest in education as the foundation of sustainable development.
The session, moderated by Mr. Ahmed Shale from Finn Church Aid (FCA), provided a platform for education partners to share insights and strengthen coordination mechanisms to ensure the effective rollout of the LMCS program.
Participants emphasised the importance of county ownership, alignment of partner efforts, and long-term sustainability of digital learning initiatives.
They also discussed strategies to enhance the participation of girls, children with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups in education programs.
UNICEF representatives reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Marsabit County Government to improve learning outcomes, connectivity, and teacher capacity, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
The County Government of Marsabit expressed appreciation for the strong partnerships driving educational progress across the region.
Officials noted that collaboration with development partners such as UNICEF, FCA, and TAF is instrumental in achieving universal access to quality education and closing the digital divide.
The launch of the LMCS program marks a new chapter in Marsabit’s education journey, strengthening the county’s resolve to create a learning environment where technology, inclusivity, and opportunity converge to empower the next generation.
