Nairobi is set to host a high-level two-day dialogue on “Building the Resilience and Prosperity of Pastoralists and Dryland Communities” from October 1–2, 2025.

The forum will bring together governments, NGOs, international development partners, researchers, investors, and pastoral associations to chart sustainable solutions for dryland regions.

Convened by the IGAD Centre for Pastoral Areas and Livestock Development (ICPALD), the Supporting Pastoralism and Agriculture in Recurrent and Protracted Crises (SPARC) programme, and the Jameel Observatory for Food Security Early Action, the dialogue is expected to be a landmark event in shaping resilience strategies for pastoral and dryland communities across the region.

The discussions will focus on addressing the recurring challenges faced by pastoralist populations, including climate shocks, food insecurity, and economic vulnerability.

Organizers say the dialogue will serve as a platform to strengthen partnerships, scale up evidence-based policies, and attract investment that empowers communities living in arid and semi-arid lands.

Development partners, international financial institutions, civil society actors, and policymakers are among those expected to attend.

Their collaboration is aimed at bridging research with practice, ensuring that communities benefit directly from solutions designed to enhance resilience, prosperity, and sustainable livelihoods.

The Nairobi meeting underscores the urgent need to unite global expertise and local knowledge to transform dryland economies and secure the future of pastoralist communities in the Horn of Africa and beyond.
