The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has recognised outstanding leaders and peace ambassadors from Mandera County for their exemplary efforts in fostering peace, unity, and social cohesion.
The honours were presented during the Mashujaa Day celebrations held at the Mandera Stadium.
NCIC explained that the recognition was part of the Peace Champion 2025 initiative, a national program that celebrates individuals and groups making notable contributions to harmony and conflict prevention within their communities.
The initiative reflects NCIC’s broader mission to promote coexistence and mutual understanding among Kenya’s diverse populations.
According to the commission, the event was graced by NCIC Commissioner Hon. Abdulaziz Ali Farah, who represented the Commission, alongside Liban Guyo, the Director for Peacebuilding and Reconciliation at NCIC.
The ceremony brought together local leaders, peace advocates, youth representatives, and community elders in a show of unity and shared commitment to peaceful coexistence.
Commissioner Abdulaziz commended Mandera’s sustained peacebuilding efforts, noting that the county continues to serve as a national model for dialogue and reconciliation.
He encouraged residents and leaders to remain vigilant in safeguarding peace and to build on the strong foundations of community collaboration that have reduced tensions and strengthened trust among different groups.
NCIC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local peace structures and amplifying the voices of grassroots champions who continue to play a vital role in shaping a cohesive and inclusive Kenya.
The recognition of Mandera’s peacebuilders served as a timely reminder of the importance of unity in national progress and the enduring power of community-driven reconciliation.
