Lifeline Gedo (LLG), in partnership with Concern Worldwide and with support from the UK government through the Building Resilient Communities in Somalia (BRCiS) programme, has completed a fodder production initiative aimed at strengthening livestock health and improving access to animal feed.

The project involved working with contracted farmers and establishing demonstration sites to promote sustainable fodder cultivation practices.

According to an update from Concern Worldwide Kenya, the initiative addresses the recurring challenge of seasonal feed shortages that often affect pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities across Somalia by producing quality livestock feed locally.

Beyond improving animal health and productivity, the project has also opened new income-generating opportunities for farming families engaged in fodder production.

Farmers are now able to supply surplus feed to local markets, boosting household earnings while enhancing community resilience against drought and food insecurity.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by LLG and its partners to promote climate-smart agriculture and community-led solutions that enhance livelihoods and environmental sustainability.

Through collaboration with local communities, the project is turning green initiatives into tangible change, contributing to a more resilient and food-secure future for Somali households dependent on livestock.
