The Pastoralists Parliamentary Group (PPG) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Future Growth Forum to strengthen livestock development, expand halal investment opportunities, and enhance farmer training on certification standards.

The agreement, signed at the Parliament of Kenya by PPG Chairperson Hon. Major (Rtd) Bashir Abdullahi and Future Growth Forum Chief Executive Officer Abdulaziz Billow Ali, marks a major step toward advancing the economic and social interests of pastoralist communities across the country.

Under the partnership, PPG and the Forum will work closely to build capacity within the livestock sector, support farmers in meeting international certification requirements, and create market opportunities linked to the rapidly growing halal economy.

The collaboration also aims to improve livestock value chains, ensuring that pastoralist producers can access better prices and wider markets.

Leaders noted that pastoralist communities remain central to Kenya’s food security and export potential, yet continue to face challenges such as poor infrastructure, limited access to finance, and gaps in training and certification.

The MoU seeks to address these barriers while positioning Kenya as a competitive player in the regional and global livestock trade.

The initiative underscores PPG’s commitment to ensuring that pastoralist voices are represented in policymaking, while securing tangible economic benefits for communities that depend on livestock as their primary source of livelihood.

Through this partnership, pastoralist farmers are expected to benefit from enhanced skills, strengthened market linkages, and increased participation in the halal economy, thereby opening up new opportunities for income generation and resilience.
