President William Ruto has unveiled a series of transformative infrastructure projects in Samburu County aimed at boosting socio-economic growth, creating employment, and enhancing livelihoods for local communities.

Speaking during the commissioning and ground-breaking events, President Ruto emphasised the government’s commitment to supporting citizens through strategic investments in affordable housing, modern markets, and student hostels.

“We are investing in transformative infrastructure, including affordable housing, fresh produce markets, and student hostels, to drive socio-economic growth and create opportunities for citizens to work and engage in productive enterprise,” President Ruto said.

In Samburu North Constituency, President Ruto laid the foundation stone for the KSh190 million Baragoi Modern Market, which is expected to provide over 500 traders with a safe and modern environment to conduct their businesses.

“This bold investment will transform the face of the county, open new spaces for enterprise, create meaningful jobs and skills for our young people, expand access to decent housing, and unlock the full potential of the economy of Samburu,” he added.

In Samburu East Constituency, the President also laid the foundation for the 302-unit Archer’s Post Affordable Housing Project, a development set to provide decent housing and create jobs for the local workforce.

Education infrastructure received a boost as President Ruto broke ground for a 340-bed student hostel at Samburu West Technical and Vocational College in Sirata.

Once completed within one year, the facility will provide secure, affordable accommodation for over 200 students, reducing long commutes and allowing learners to focus on their studies.

“We are constructing student hostels across all our tertiary institutions to provide our learners with modern, affordable, and secure accommodation,” President Ruto said.

Urban infrastructure is also receiving attention. Maralal town is being upgraded with improved roads, sewerage systems, and essential urban services to support a growing population and expanding businesses.

Complementing these efforts, the government commissioned the KSh760 million Maralal Water Supply Project, which will provide reliable and affordable water to more than 70,000 households across the town and surrounding areas within six months.

President Ruto’s initiatives in Samburu County are part of a wider plan to foster economic empowerment, create jobs, and support inclusive growth, demonstrating a multi-sectoral approach that links housing, markets, education, and urban development to community prosperity.
