Garissa County has reaffirmed its commitment to building a more inclusive and dignified society for persons with disabilities, marking this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a major rollout of new jobs and livelihood support tools.
Governor Nathif Jama, joined by County Commissioner Mohamed Mwabudzo and representatives of disability groups from across the county, led the celebrations at the White House within the County Headquarters.

The event highlighted the administration’s continued prioritisation of disability inclusion within county planning and service delivery.
During the ceremony, ten persons living with disabilities received formal employment appointment letters for positions across various county departments, an important step toward promoting equal opportunities and economic independence.
In addition to the new jobs, one hundred other beneficiaries received livelihood support items, including pressure-wash machines, water tanks, and sewing machines to help them establish or expand small businesses.
Mobility support was also strengthened, with Mission Relief UK donating specialised handcycles to assist individuals with physical disabilities in moving more easily within their communities.
Governor Nathif reaffirmed that disability inclusion will remain central to county development efforts.
“My administration will continue standing with you. Our support will not end today. We remain committed to creating opportunities that improve your dignity and independence,” he said.
The Governor also emphasised that persons with disabilities are a core part of the Garissa community and must be meaningfully involved at every level of county operations
