The Principal Secretary for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho, CBS, chaired a high-level meeting on Friday, bringing together key stakeholders to assess progress on the Drought Resilience Program in Northern Kenya (DRNPK).

The session, convened both physically and virtually, featured representatives from the State Department for Irrigation, the National Treasury, and county governments, including Marsabit and Turkana.

Central to the discussions was the proposal to extend the program’s implementation timeline from December 2025 to December 2027, alongside fast-tracking a financing agreement for an additional EUR 9 million to support ongoing interventions.

Marsabit County was represented by Chief Officer for Agriculture and Crop Development, Madam Orge G. Bajji, and County Project Coordinator for DRNPK, Mr. Patrick Wambua.

They outlined progress on local projects, highlighting investments in dams, irrigation systems, and resilience-building initiatives that are steadily improving livelihoods in drought-prone communities.

The deliberations underscored the program’s importance in advancing water security, enhancing agricultural productivity, and safeguarding households in arid and semi-arid regions against the impacts of climate change.

The Marsabit Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Development reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with national and regional partners in building resilient food systems and supporting the well-being of households across the county.
