The Somali National Army (SNA), in coordination with the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) under the AUSSOM mission, successfully repelled an early morning assault by Al-Shabaab militants in the Lower Shabelle region on Friday.
The coordinated attack occurred around 6:20 AM in the Sabiib and Canoole areas.
The joint forces, who were on high alert, responded swiftly, preventing the terrorists from breaching strategic positions in the region.
During the confrontation, 18 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed, while pursuit operations are ongoing to capture any fleeing militants.
A statement seen by PNTV stated that despite the success of the operation, the Somali National Army suffered the loss of four soldiers, with seven others sustaining minor injuries.
Medical teams on the ground provided immediate care to the wounded personnel.
The Ministry of Defence commended the courage and determination of the national forces and acknowledged the critical role played by international partners.
Aerial support from allied forces inflicted significant damage on the militants, aiding in the operation’s overall success.
