The fusion of culture and technology took centre stage on 20th November 2025 as the Tech Meets Culture, Student Innovation Challenge unfolded at the historic Lamu Fort during the annual Lamu Cultural Festival.

The event showcased the creativity and potential of 14 young learners drawn from Amma Primary, Mahmoud Bin Fadhil Girls, and Mahmoud Bin Fadhil Boys Schools.

Hosted by the Lamu Tech Hub and co-implemented by the Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC), the challenge was supported by the Raspberry Pi Foundation (RPF) and the County Government of Lamu.

Together, these partners created a platform that allowed students to present innovation projects inspired by Lamu’s rich cultural heritage while integrating digital tools and storytelling.

From models inspired by Swahili architecture to tech-driven cultural preservation ideas, the learners demonstrated how tradition can fuel modern solutions.

Their projects highlighted not only their creativity but also their growing confidence and ability to use technology to solve real-world challenges.

Organizers noted that the initiative reflects a growing effort to empower young learners in frontier counties by equipping them with digital literacy, curiosity, and problem-solving skills.

By blending culture with technology, the challenge aims to nurture the next generation of innovators capable of preserving heritage while embracing future opportunities.
