The Towfiq Camel Milk Group in Garissa has marked a major milestone in its journey toward economic transformation with the launch of its KEBS-certified camel milk brand, Nahy.

The achievement follows months of intensive capacity-building support from Islamic Relief Kenya, aimed at empowering agro-pastoralist households to transition from traditional subsistence practices to competitive, market-driven livelihoods.

Through Islamic Relief Kenya’s training on the camel milk and goat meat value chains, members of Towfiq and other local households have gained practical skills in production, hygiene standards, value addition, and market linkages.

This shift has enabled families to diversify income sources, improve product quality, and strengthen their resilience in an increasingly unpredictable climate.

The Towfiq group stands out as one of the programme’s most successful examples.

With enhanced technical knowledge and direct exposure to market opportunities, the group has transformed its operations, moving from informal milk handling to a structured, quality-assured production system.

The KEBS certification of their Nahy brand signals compliance with national quality and safety standards, opening doors to larger and more profitable markets across the region.

Local leaders and programme facilitators have hailed the milestone as a testament to what targeted training and community-driven enterprise can achieve.

For the Towfiq group, the Nahy brand represents more than a business breakthrough; it symbolises improved family income, greater economic stability, and a new pathway for agro-pastoralist communities seeking sustainable livelihoods.

Islamic Relief Kenya’s ongoing initiative continues to equip more households in Garissa with the knowledge and tools needed to participate competitively in Kenya’s rapidly evolving livestock value chains.
