Communities from Turkana, Pokot, and Karamoja came together on Saturday, 13th September, for a Cross-Border Mass for Peace hosted in Lorengippi by the Diocese of Lodwar, the Diocese of Kitale, and Uganda’s Diocese of Moroto.
The gathering, held under the theme “Pilgrims of Hope Walking for Peace,” provided a spiritual platform to strengthen trust and ease tensions among pastoralist communities living along the Kenya–Uganda border.
For years, the borderlands have been marked by resource-based conflicts, but the Mass signified a shared commitment to dialogue, reconciliation, and coexistence.

Religious leaders emphasized the unifying power of faith in bringing divided communities together, while cultural and traditional leaders reaffirmed their role in guiding youth away from conflict.
The event also showcased the importance of grassroots peace initiatives that connect spirituality, community dialogue, and cross-border cooperation.
Organizations supporting peacebuilding in the drylands, including the Drylands Learning and Capacity Building Initiative (DLCI), pledged solidarity with the communities walking the path of peace and resilience.
By encouraging healing and reconciliation, the Mass underscored the potential of cross-border collaboration to transform long-standing hostilities into opportunities for unity and development.
As voices of prayer and song filled Lorengippi, the gathering left a powerful message that peace is possible when communities choose to walk together as pilgrims of hope.
