The Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) is making significant strides in advancing education for underserved regions, as highlighted during the UKFIET Education and Development Forum Conference at the University of Oxford.

Abdullahi Maalim, a Governance and Policy expert spearheading coordination of education and governance policies across frontier counties, emphasized the power of partnerships in transforming education and digital literacy for children in marginalized areas.

During the conference, Maalim, alongside colleague Abdullahi Atosh, engaged in productive discussions with key partners, including Ben Durbin of the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Abdechafi Boubkir of Geneva Global.

“One of the highlights of attending the UKFIET Conference has been the opportunity to network with our partners during breaks between sessions,” Maalim said.

These interactions provided a platform to exchange ideas and strengthen collaborations aimed at addressing educational challenges in frontier counties.

“Stepping out of the conference halls to connect with colleagues who share a deep commitment to transforming education and enhancing digital literacy for children in underserved regions is always energising,” Maalim noted.

“These conversations remind me that partnerships are the driving force behind sustainable impact.”

The discussions focused on innovative approaches to improve access to quality education and digital tools, critical for empowering young learners in remote and resource-constrained areas.

The UKFIET Conference, a premier global forum for education and development, offered a vital opportunity for FCDC to learn from global experts and share insights from their work in Kenya’s frontier counties.

Maalim expressed gratitude for the chance to deepen ties with partners like the Raspberry Pi Foundation, known for its work in promoting digital literacy, and Geneva Global, a leader in education and community development initiatives.

“I am grateful for the chance to learn, exchange ideas, and strengthen the bonds that will continue to shape our collective journey,” he added.

The FCDC’s participation underscores its commitment to fostering inclusive education systems that address the unique challenges of frontier counties, such as limited infrastructure and access to resources.

By leveraging partnerships with global organizations, the FCDC aims to drive sustainable change, ensuring that children in underserved regions have the tools and opportunities to thrive.

As the conference concludes, the connections forged and ideas shared are set to fuel ongoing efforts to transform education in frontier counties, paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future.
