The Wajir Township Affordable Housing Project has reached 60 per cent completion, marking a significant milestone in the government's efforts to provide decent, affordable housing while creating jobs and stimulating local economic growth.
Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr Raymond Omollo, said the project continues to make steady progress, with construction now advancing into the finishing phase.

The development, which forms part of the national Affordable Housing Programme, is expected to transform urban living in Wajir by increasing access to quality housing and supporting inclusive economic empowerment within the county.
According to Dr Omollo, the project has already generated employment opportunities for more than 200 workers, including 60 women, reflecting the government's commitment to promoting inclusive participation in development projects.
"The ongoing Wajir Township Affordable Housing Project is now 60 per cent complete, marking steady progress in delivering dignified and accessible housing while driving local economic empowerment," said the Principal Secretary.
Construction works have advanced to both internal and external plastering, with finishing activities gradually taking shape.
Key construction materials, including floor and wall tiles, are already being delivered to the site as preparations begin for the final stages of development.
The housing project comprises 220 residential units spread across 11 blocks and is designed to accommodate different household needs.
The development includes 60 studio units in one block, 48 one-bedroom units in three blocks, 64 two-bedroom units in four blocks, and 48 three-bedroom units in three blocks.
Officials say the mix of housing options is intended to cater for a diverse range of residents, including individuals, young professionals, families, and low- to middle-income households seeking affordable accommodation.
The project is expected to be completed within the next four months, bringing Wajir closer to realising one of its most significant urban development investments in recent years.
To ensure sustainable service delivery for future residents, the project has also been equipped with a borehole that will provide a reliable water supply to the housing estate.
Beyond housing delivery, the project has become an important source of livelihood for local workers, suppliers, and businesses, contributing to economic activity within the county while enhancing skills development in the construction sector.
The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration continues to support the initiative by coordinating security and safety measures around the project site.
Dr Omollo noted that the department is working closely with relevant agencies to maintain a secure working environment for construction teams and protect the integrity of the investment.
"The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration continues to support the initiative by reinforcing safety and coordination around the site, ensuring a secure environment for workers and future residents while safeguarding the integrity of this critical urban investment," he said.

The Affordable Housing Programme remains one of the government's flagship development initiatives aimed at addressing Kenya's housing deficit, creating jobs, stimulating economic growth, and improving living standards across the country.
Once completed, the Wajir Township Affordable Housing Project is expected to provide modern, dignified, and accessible housing while contributing to the county's broader urban transformation and socio-economic development agenda.
