The Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE) and supported by The Action Foundation (TAF) and Lifeskills Promoters (LISP), successfully conducted a community engagement and sensitisation session on Digital Hubs at Wajir Township Primary School on October 25, 2025.

The event brought together 50 key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Wajir County Government, local chiefs, women, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and religious leaders.

Discussions centred on strengthening local ownership, raising awareness, and ensuring inclusive participation in the management of digital hubs across the county.

In the afternoon, a joint team led by Ms. Saadia Abdikheir (Deputy Director of Education), Ms. Halima Mohamed (TSC), and Ms. Nasra (FCDC) visited four potential sites for the establishment of digital hubs.

These visits aimed to assess infrastructure readiness and identify community-driven opportunities for expanding digital access.

Mr. George Onyango, Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing digital transformation and youth empowerment through technology-driven education, officially opened the workshop.

Closing the session, Dr. Koriyow Ali, County Director of Education, commended the collaborative approach, urging all participants to continue championing inclusive and technology-enhanced learning within their schools and communities.

“At FCDC, we remain dedicated to bridging the digital divide and empowering our people with skills and opportunities that prepare them for the future of work and learning,” the council noted in a statement following the session.

The initiative marks another step in FCDC’s broader mission to foster digital inclusion and innovation across Kenya’s frontier counties, ensuring that no community is left behind in the country’s digital transformation journey.
