Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel serving under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) provided basic medical services to residents of Hoosingo town during an outreach aimed at strengthening relations with the local community.

The personnel, who operate from the Hoosingo area, conducted a medical camp at Hoosingo Town Dispensary alongside engagements with local leaders and administrators. According to KDF, the activities sought to support community welfare, strengthen cooperation and enhance the mission’s understanding of the local situation.
The medical camp offered residents essential healthcare support as part of the mission’s Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities. It also provided an opportunity for personnel to interact directly with community members outside their routine security duties.
KDF said beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the continued assistance and acknowledged the cordial relationship between AUSSOM personnel and the local population.
The account did not specify the number of residents treated or provide a breakdown of the medical services offered.
Alongside the healthcare outreach, the team conducted a Key Leader Engagement (KLE), bringing together mission personnel, local leaders and administrators to discuss matters of mutual interest.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the mission and the local administration, with participants emphasising the importance of sustained dialogue in supporting community welfare and promoting stability.
Such engagements provide a channel through which mission personnel and local representatives can exchange perspectives on issues affecting the area. In Hoosingo, the discussions formed part of the team’s efforts to maintain close working relations with the community while enhancing situational awareness.
KDF presented the medical camp and leadership engagement as complementary activities, linking practical assistance with continued communication between security personnel and residents.
While the medical outreach addressed basic healthcare needs, the discussions with local representatives reinforced the role of cooperation in advancing shared community interests.
The activities also highlighted the place of civil-military cooperation within the personnel’s work under AUSSOM. By engaging residents and local administrators, the team sought to strengthen the relationships that support its presence and operations in the area.
According to KDF, the outreach reaffirmed the importance of community engagement and medical assistance in fostering trust, supporting local welfare and strengthening cooperation between security forces and the communities they serve.
