More than 36,000 displaced people in Moyale camps and host communities are receiving support, including food, health services and essential household items.

A displaced mother has safely delivered her baby in hospital following a timely referral by Kenya Red Cross teams responding to the humanitarian situation in Moyale.

The Kenya Red Cross Society said both mother and baby were doing well, describing the newborn as the first baby born amid the displacement covered by its response.

The safe delivery highlights the importance of access to maternal healthcare during displacement, as families seek shelter and essential services across six camps and host communities.

According to the society’s update, more than 36,000 people are displaced in Moyale. Its teams are continuing to provide health services, food and household items while working with the County Government of Marsabit and humanitarian partners.

Support for mothers and children remains part of the response. Across the camps, teams are screening children and mothers for malnutrition and providing new mothers with nutrition and breastfeeding care.

These services complement the referral support that enabled the mother to reach hospital for delivery. The society did not disclose the hospital’s name or further personal details about the family.

Food assistance is also continuing, with additional supplies reaching the camps. Kenya Red Cross volunteers are helping prepare and serve hot meals every day alongside the health services and household assistance already being provided.

The combined response seeks to meet immediate needs among displaced families, including those requiring maternal care and nutritional support.

Kenya Red Cross said it continues to coordinate with the county government and partners to reach those most in need.

For the mother and her newborn, the timely hospital referral provided access to safe delivery care amid the disruption of displacement, while ongoing outreach continues to support other mothers and children across Moyale.
